Sharing¶
TidyShop has two ways to share a list. Which one you want depends on whether the other person should see later changes.
| Send a copy | Share a family list | |
|---|---|---|
| Needs a server | No | Yes, a family server |
| The other person gets | A snapshot of the list as it is now | The same list, kept in sync both ways |
| Works with | Anyone with TidyShop | Members of your family |
Both start from the share button at the top of a list you own.
Send a copy¶
Share → Send copy to opens Android's share sheet with a link. Send it through any messenger or email. When the other person taps it, TidyShop asks Add shared list? and, if they choose Add list, creates a personal copy on their phone.
The whole list travels inside the link itself: it isn't uploaded anywhere, and the link works without a server. That also limits its size. A very long list shows List is too long to send; split it into two lists, or share it through your family server instead.
A copy is a one-off. Changes either of you make afterwards stay on your own phone.
Share a family list¶
A Family list lives on your family server. Join a family first, then create a list with List type: Family, or open an existing family list.
Share → Share with family sets who can see it, in one of two ways:
- Everyone: one level for the whole household. It also lets any member add the list themselves from Family sharing → Lists you can join.
- Individually: a level per family member.
The levels:
| Level | Can do |
|---|---|
| View | See the list. Read-only. |
| Check | Tick items off and back on, and nothing else. Handy for whoever does the shopping. |
| Edit | Add, change and remove items too. |
| Hidden | Not shared with this person. |
Family administrators always get Edit, whatever is set here. Only the list's owner can change its sharing or delete it.
Changes sync as you make them. While TidyShop is open, other phones receive them within a second.
Notify family¶
Family lists have a Notify family bell. Tap it when the list needs attention, for example "someone please do the shopping". Everyone the list is shared with gets a notification, if they have notifications turned on. The bell turns into Family notified once it has been sent.
To avoid a flood, a list can raise one nudge a minute; tapping again within that minute doesn't notify anyone a second time.
