Getting started

From installing the app to ticking off your first item takes about a minute.

1. Install TidyShop

TidyShop is in closed testing on Google Play. Join the beta, and once you've been added, install it from the Play Store like any other app. Updates arrive the same way.

You need Android 7.0 or newer.

2. Tell TidyShop your name

The first screen asks what to call you. That's the whole setup: there's no email, no password and no account. Your name is how you appear to the family if you share lists later, and you can change it any time under Profile.

The same screen has a few other ways in:

  • Restore a backup: bring back your lists from a file, your Google Drive or a family server. See Backup and restore.
  • Continue with SSO: only if your household's server uses single sign-on and you were told to use it.
  • Open pending family invitation: appears if you opened an invite link before finishing setup.

3. Protect it, if you like

Next, TidyShop asks whether it should be locked. Set a PIN requires a 4–6 digit PIN, or your fingerprint or face once you enable biometrics, before your lists open. Not now skips it. You can change your mind later under Profile → Security.

4. Make your first list

Tap Create a list, then choose how to start:

  • Store: pick your country and the shop. The list gets its name and logo, and you can still edit the name.
  • Manual: type a name such as Weekly groceries and choose an icon.

Leave the List type on Personal for now. Family lists need a family server; see Joining a family.

5. Add items

Type in Add an item… and press enter or the plus button. Try 2x 500g pasta or 1,5 l milk: TidyShop splits out the quantity and size by itself. Tap an item to tick it off, and it moves down to Completed.
